It is true. Detoxification is a process that is naturally built into the human body to keep it healthy and running smoothly. Yet, all around us, there are people who don’t visibly look healthy and society is getting sicker every day. Plus, oftentimes, the medical community jumps in imploring that the body already has everything it needs for detoxification, therefore ‘doing a cleanse’ is not necessary. Doesn’t this make you wonder exactly where the truth lies?
A Quick Look At Our Amazing Detoxification Process
The human detox system, which removes accumulated wastes, is comprised of five organs, the liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs and skin, also known as emunctories. Wastes created directly by the body (endogenous wastes) and those accumulated from outside the body (exogeneous wastes) are all managed through the same filtering system.
This begins with the liver filtering wastes from the blood and metabolizing them into forms that can be eliminated in one of the following ways:
-
•Liquid wastes through the urinary system – the kidneys and the bladder
-
•Sweating through the skin
-
•Gaseous wastes through the lungs
-
•Solids through the intestines
“I’m confused. That sounds like we are taken care of… right?”
It all sounds great. The human body is equipped with the right tools for detoxification, but many people are still not maintaining health and don’t feel great. Why? The reason is that it is possible for the body’s systems to be overloaded to the point that these cleansing mechanisms cannot keep up.
The divide between the medical community and the holistic community is more accurately about how much our built-in detoxification system can handle. While it is true that the body is miraculous, it is also true that it sometimes needs a break or some help.
In our world today, there are 3 primary ways that your body and natural detoxification system gets overloaded:
-
1.Through the food you eat – Processed foods, excessive levels of sugar, caffeine and alcohol and exposure to pesticides, antibiotics, growth hormones, etc. that are all part of the food system.
-
2.From the personal care products you use – Applying chemical-based products regularly to your skin, your largest organ, including shampoos, lotions, makeup and more.
-
3.From environmental exposure – What you use to clean and scent your home, car and clothes, your furnishings, all pollutants and chemicals you are exposed to in the rest of life, through the quality of the air you breathe and where you live.
The days of simple, non-toxic exposures are over. With bombardment from all parts of life like these, the amazing detoxification system we possess simply cannot keep up and, ultimately, the extra toxins that are not regularly flushed out are stored internally.
4 Key Signs That Your Body Is Under Toxic Stress
Here are some simple ways to determine whether your body is on the verge of overload or already under toxic stress:
-
1.The gastrointestinal system – It’s part of the cleansing system!
Symptoms: digestive stress, constipation, diarrhea, gas, smelly stools, bloating, bad breath.
-
2.Skin – The largest organ in the body and the last exit point to rid of toxins.
Symptoms: acne, boils, rashes, eczema, psoriasis and other skin issues.
-
3.Allergic or autoimmune reactions – Show that the body’s defense system is fatigued or overloaded.
Symptoms: chronic allergies, congestion, excessive mucus, postnasal drip, frequent sinus infections, watery eyes, dark circles under the eyes.
-
4.Chronic inflammation – A sign of body toxic distress and the foundation of many bigger diseases.
Symptoms: joint pain, muscle stiffness, gout, headaches, trouble losing weight, persistent fatigue and chronic illnesses.
Some simple ways you can help your body detoxify:
-
1.Upgrade your diet – avoid processed foods, read labels and become more of a plant-based eater. What you eat is the single biggest improvement you can make.
-
2.Start your day with warm lemon water and drink the right amount of filtered water for your body all day.
-
3.Add in regular exercise to build a strong body and help move your lymphatic system, but also to help you sweat.
-
4.Consider doing a short term cleanse under the guidance of a health coach and the watchful eye of your Doctor. Similarly, you can help flush your lymphatic system and help your intestinal system clean out.
-
5.Change your personal care products. Avoid the junk often included in so many items, like parabens, SLS, alcohol and more.
-
6.Change out household cleaning products and instead, make your own.
Knowing more about the signs of toxic distress and some simple lifestyle changes will put you on a path of greater awareness, give you more control over what is happening to your body and set you on a path towards a better quality of life.
